aligning linear dims after snapping

Okay so here's one that is hard to search as it just brings up snapping issues, which is not my question.

When you snap horizontal and drag the dim down and it shows up as the blue dashed alignment to the last one and bingo you snap it there. But this is not working for vertical (horizontal and vertical on the page in floor plan is what I am trying to say)

thanks in advance

Try to pick the face of the wall (or core) while dimensioning.

I think the new dimension you created is not parallel to the existing one.

Thanks for the answers

I tried to check this setting and only to realise that its now totally working before trying anything??

So its a case of 'have you tried turning it off and turning it back on again'??
