Aligned Dimensions: text 'below' wrong rotation if "left/right then up"

Hello everyone,

seems like there is a bug at least in Revit 2021.1.5 and Revit 2022.1 regarding the rotation and placement of the "text below" of aligned dimensions.

While "up then left" works like it should be, "left then up" and "right then up" seem to have a bug. The "above" text is rotated and placed as it should be, while the "below" text stays where it was and is now colliding with the value of the dimension. (See Pictures)

"Up then left " --> Works as it should"Up then left " --> Works as it should

"Left then up" --> Bug"Left then up" --> Bug

EDIT: The problem seems to appear with Detail Lines. Dimensioning reference planes for example works as it should.

EDIT: The problem seems to depend on the direction the line is drawn.

So you are just reporting a bug? if you are, then

  • you would need to send it to Autodesk rather than posting on the users forum
  • and you need to be more specific...ie:
    1. Report the full build number
    2. Make sure you have the latest update and hotfix installed (that is what they are for - to fix bugs)

That said and based on what you have posted...you do not have the latest updates installed

I have just tested on 2022 latest version and it works fine

Thanks for your response and for trying it out!

As I'm new to the forum and to reporting bugs, I wasn't aware that you have to report it directly to Autodesk. I thought they are reading things on this forum as well. Do you have a link or something to report bugs? I've already searched on Google but haven't found anything.

And yes, I'm slightly not using the newest hotfixes. But as there wasn't anything mentioned in the changelogs, I thought the problem probably still exists in the newest versions. I'll contact our IT-guy and see if I can get the newest hotfixes installed. If the problem then still persists, I'll come back. 🙂

I've just noticed that you've used reference planes for the dimensions. I've tried that and strangly it works for me as it should with reference planes. I'm facing the problem if I'm trying to dimension Detail Lines. 😶

I've experimented a bit more, and indeed it doesn't seem to be a problem between detail lines and reference planes. Rather the direction of the line that is drawn seems to be the cause. Drawing it from the bottom left to the top right, produces the problem. Drawing it from the top right to the bottom left is working just fine. (Tried with "left, then up"; See screencast)
