Adjusting Floor Levels Results in Group error for unit layouts and Revit creates new groups.

I am trying to change the elevations of my floor levels on a mid-rise apartment building I'm designing, however, when I change the elevation I get the following message:

"Group instances of the same type do not contain identical members. Press "Fix Groups..." to select from options to make the groups consistent.
Corresponding group members in different group instances diverge in the following respects:
- different top heights relative to the group origin"

To resolve this I'm given only two options: Ungroup or create new group types.

This is not ideal because the reason these units are grouped is to reflect changes made in typical unit types across the board.

Any way around this?

You have groups that have elements in it with attached relationships.

One way to avoid ungrouping is to make your object host to level instead of floor or other object host. As well make all your wall to have unconnected height. If you have two level family added into the group, make sure they both host to the same level and the top level will be height of the object. Often if Revit see there is a change in height for wall, it will assume this is a new group and unconnected it.

Also I usually disjoin the wall at the end so it won't interfere with your current group.

So what's creating the issue is that I have walls that have a top constraint included in the group? Are there other relationship that i should look into besides that?

Well, start by editing the Group and setting Top Constraint of Wall in that Group  to "Unconnected" and entering a Top Offset Value instead.

Check and see

- Linebase family inside the group

- object host on face that isn't part of the group

- Room boundaries inside the group

- Lines in a group

- Families not host to current level

- Dimension constraints objects inside the group

- Wall attached to the underside of the floor, ceiling, reference plane and roof.
