Adding some gray on elevation materials to differentiate.

I have materials that only differ in color.  But in my elevations, that are being printed in black and white, I need to differentiate them visually.  The management wants one to read slightly gray.  Is there a way to make the material properties show this light gray in "Hidden Line" mode?

I don't see  material hatch that is a simple gray scale.  Where can I find that?

Thanks

Nardo

PS: To Autodesk, when we click the "Custom" button in the material editor it should take us to the folder where those patterns and materials are.  It is a Failure of Autodesk that there is no obvious path or folder with those patterns and materials.  Nothing should be difficult to find.  Add some buttons that will always lead you to the proper folder for everything.

What if you print in grayscale?

The issue is that I want a light gray to be part of the material so that when I print, 'in gray scale', there is a  light gray over our material.  We print with no color and want to differentiate between two materials.  In 'Hidden Line mode they look the same (White or paper color).  How do I add the light gray to the material in Hidden Line mode.

We have many fill patterns but no simple grays.  If hey do exist, Where are they?

I don't want to do masking.  The project will change and they will be an issue to keep track of.

Thanks

Nardo

  • Your first message says that you already have materials in color. If you print in gray scale, you will see different tones of grey for every color.
  • What do you mean about putting a light gray "as part of the material" or "over the material"? That is not clear to me.
  • If you still want to create new materials, you can go to materials editor, and create a set of materials for gray color. The Pantone set is very good.
  • Have you tried the depth cueing feature for elevations, in Revit 2017?

So you want both a hatch pattern AND a grey tone on a surface?

You can define different shades of gray as solid (or any other pattern) to the graphic surface pattern of a material to have different shades of gray on walls in an elevation. In this image i have 3 walls with different materials and I just changed the surface pattern to solid and set a different gray tone for each. This is not a shaded view. it is being displayed as hidden line.

Is this what you are after?

I have a similar issue with a twist!

I have elevations with different paint, let's say red, white, and blue. We have a color set that we print for materials, we also print a greyscale set for construction. How can we set out material to show correct actual colors,  as well as grey in the other set (white,  dark gray, light grey)? I'm on revit 2018.

Thoughts?
