Adding Roof Battens ( Of Sorts )

Hi, I have a steel structure that I created probably incorrectly but hey ho.  The curved main structure I did as an extrusion and copied the profile to create the 7 `rings` as a family.  I loaded that into my project and then added on the straight steel tubes afterwards - they are separate to the D rings.  I need to add some kind of battens along the length as indicated by the red lines I've just overdrawn on the image - the battens would go from ring 2 to ring 7 so that I can then draw brackets and mount a special aluminium roof structure to it.

I was wondering what the best method would be, should I be doing this in the family or in the project as I might wish to explode the building to show the various parts at a later stage.

My thought was to use a U shaped slotted channel as the batten. This would then get welded onto the frame.  Thing is where can I get a U shaped slotted channel from - kind of like a piece of trunking/cable tray.  Or should I be creating another family to then import it into the frame I've created?

Also, what about simple nuts and bolts?  Or proper tongue and groove flooring that is the actual T&G shape rather than just saying it is, if you know what I mean?

I know this is more of a design question, hope you can still assist!

There are some U shaped steel member families under Structural framing.
They are not slotted but you can nest a face based void array family to cut
it if you are seriously need the slots. You can also look at Unistrut see
if they offer any BIM content or to create family based on their products.
They normally come with holes so you don't need to draw them if you spec
them correctly.

Really sorry, just not getting it at all.......

I have created my own profile which I can see under the Project Browser tab in Profile section, plus I can also see a standard L section profile I loaded as well.  How do I now get these into my drawing?

Here are 2 images from a mock up I did in AutoCAD.  The red is the steel tube.  You can see the angle brackets with a little block fixed to it.  Then the outer curved lines represent my T&G special roof.  Just thought I'd post these in case they help

Now you are showing segmented roof panel with battens, and curved beams, I
would consider a totally different approach. Model the roof as sloped
glazing, battens as custom profiled mullions, roof panels are 150 mm flat
curtain panels. The curved beams are tube steel sweeps.

What is your end goal? Why are you wanting to model all of that?

There certainly are valid reasons to do it, but unless you have one, don't do it.
