Adding parameters to a family

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello,

I have a client that is looking for added parameters to the families of equipment in their project.

They are looking to add 'Family Name' and Family Type Name'. I thought that this to be redundant but felt I should perform my due diligence and ask the community.

Is this necessary or even possible?

Thank you,

RevitHawk

There's no redundancy; Family Name/Type are not parameters.  I'm curious though; what does client hope to gain with those two additional parameters?

I think the client asking to " Add" that parameters to the Schedule.. not " Create " those parameters..

Cheers!

Those parameters already exist. If you make a schedule of mechanical equipment (and other categories), you can see that in the list of available fields, there is "Family" and there is "Family and Type".

Thanks @Alfredo_Medina. Good thing you jumped in here. I didn't think far enough downstream. Absolutely there is a conflict at scheduling -- if they are Shared Parameters. I've made that rookie mistake before. Ain't fun correcting.

A family can have the built-in "Family Name" parameter and additional "Family Name" shared parameter.  The would be no conflict, but a heck of confusion nonetheless.
