Adding more filter options to sheet index/schedule

I am currently submitting to a city that requires documents to be split in sets of 150 sheets, however each one of the sets needs to have a specific cover page and sheet list. Creating copies of a master sheet index/list is not the issue but rather filtering out sheets in each volume. I find myself needing to use more than the eight filters provided by Revit, does anyone know if there is a way to allow more than 8 filters to the sheet list. You might say you have to find the right combination but after spending 3 hours trying combinations to have a specific filter set it seems that this is simply taking too long. Is there a plug-in that allows you to mess with the filter options? For example, I have a series of covers numbered A001.1 THRU A001.7, and index/lists numbered A002.1 THRU A002.7, if I am at volume two for example I need to start at A001.2, I can do sheet number greater than or equal too, but then I have to filter out there of the A001 series, the A002 series and tell Revit to start counting after A100 but stop before A540. 8 filters is again not enough, any suggestions?

Hi @Anonymous

Would it be plausible to create a shared parameter applied to sheets, you might use the parameter "Volume" and then for each sheet apply the volume number to the parameter.  This would be made easier using an excel import export plugin, where you could export the sheet list schedule, to Excel, including the Volume parameter, apply the volume parameter, then import the schedule back in to Revit.

Have a look at ARUtils Software solutions, they have a import export tool which is excellent.

Also ARUtils have a filtering tool which could identify all of the parameters of your sheets and allow you to select by the parameters you need.

8 Filters isn't enough?  Wow.   What about "Filtering IN" rather than "Filtering OUT" -- and then unticking itemize every instance and assigning a common identifier (i.e. Integer Project Parameter "ID" = 1) to the "bunch".  Then the next filtering process to find the next bunch would also include "ID" and "has no value", and that bunch would be assigned an "ID" value.   So on and so forth until all sheets are assigned an "ID".  When all done, you can Filter by "ID".

Confused yet?  😉

Sadly for this case 8 filters was not enough, it is the only city I am aware, so far, that requires sets to be split into volumes and to an extent it makes sense, it is much easier to carry around volumes that are 150 sheets long as opposed to a 1050 sheet set.

The lack of filter issue, for example if the volume sheet list/index are placed in a A200.X series, you have seven of those, if you were in volume one you would have to include the first sheet, with a greater than or equal to filter and less than or equal to where you need to cut off the volume, however you also need to filter out and exclude the index and for the other six volumes and since filters work with an 'and' only you see how I run out of filters pretty quick. Maybe the solution would not be that Revit incorporates more filters in future updates, but perhaps and option to modify the 'and' verbiage and include 'or' and ideally 'but also'.

Solution wise the above response is the right way to do things. Actually been using a plug-in to bring in consultant information that is still in CAD, not all professions are switching to Revit at the same rate, sadly.

Figured it out! Did a quick solution to the issue using the plug-in I'm working with, DiRoots/SheetLink by the same people that made Dynamo it is still a little rough. I will take a look at the one you mentioned. Thank you!

Split a sheet set to multiple volumes is a normal practice for large projects. I don't think you even need a plug-in to do it, simply create a sheet parameter and enter a volume number for sheets, then filter the sheet index schedules for the volumes based on that parameter.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was saying. I don't understand why that can't work here.
