Hey everyone!
I'm kinda new to Revit, and, although I can find my way around, I'm having some troubles with materials. You see, I have very few materials installed; and even fewer in the family editor. I need to assign several materials to several objects/families, so that I can render it (I use another programme). The thing is, in the family editor only the category materials show up, and they are very very few! I need to create more, so that I can have different materials. And I do that, I create several basic colors - add them to the objects - close and it is done. When I open another family editor all the colors/materials I created aren't there! Why? I'm obviously missing some very basic steps.
Can anyone help me?

In general with Revit things created are kept in the file.
So if you create a material inside a family it will only be in that file.
If you want to 'share'material between families you will have to put that material in a (users) library. Then you can drag that material from the library to the family (or project).
Also note that material name is relevant. If two families have a material with the same name but with different settings. When you place them in the project the material that was put first in the project, those settings will be kept. Something to keep in mind
As you mention you are new to Revit. I want to advise you to get some basic course. This can be books (e.g. Mastering Series, books by Paul Aubin), vdeo courses (e.g. lynda.com, pluralsight.com) or classical. This will help you to get up to speed much faster because you get better graps of the concepts of Revit.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.
