I'm creating an Electrical Fixture component family to show a receptacle. I have the Generic Annotation family picking up the receptacle symbol in plan and a label showing the text GFI. This is type based. I would like to add a Notes label that can be an instance parameter which I can select in the project file to add instance notes. I can't seem to get the instance parameter to be editable in the project file. Do I have to create another annotation family inside the component? I have attached both families. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Here is a screen shot of what I would like. The upper right hand corner is the project file and I wish to have the "Notes" text be an instance parameter that I can change for each instance, if required.

depending on how long the notes will be (character count)
I would handle this with a general Note and use a key tag symbol
a circle with a number that calls out general notes on the sheet.
The main purpose of the family is a receptacle symbol. I wanted to modify the default component family to just add an instance based note attached to the family. If I can't do that I will just create a generic annotation family and add the type and instance based labels as required. I wanted to have the receptacle show up in elevation, and plan, and possibly pick up the height AFF in an instance based parameter as well. Thanks.

Ideally You need 1 Label for Both GIF and Note
IF you have more than 1 annotation nested into the Electric Fixture >>>

When I look at the family, generic annotation is fine. You simply need to tie the embedded generic annotation to outlet parameter
I basically tie them to notes
When I load it into the project and type in the notes parameter, it works.
try this back bock family then associate your symbolic receptacle family together
they will show up in plan view as a symbol and in section / elevation as a faceplate w/ back box
these families are in Revit 2020
Thanks - not sure why I missed that. I couldn't see the associate button for some reason. I did it from the Family Types button and also worked.
Next thing - is there a way to add the height (elevation from level) parameter as a label as well? Do I have to create a shared parameter for that? It exists as a parameter in the family when I select it in the project file.
Regards Peter.
Sadly if it is hosted to a wall, it neglect the ability to read from level offset parameter. So one way I typically do this would be make it non-host and use the Height AFF
