Adding components to Walls in Revit

Hello,

I am planning to draw tilt-up walls in revit. I imported the floor plan from CAD and started using wall command to draw walls. But I have some doubts. Generally tilt-up walls have embeds and ledger beams at the roof level to hold or connect the structural system of the building. So my question is How do I add those embeds and other features to the walls? I have plans to use this model in Navisworks for clash detection but getting the REVIT model right is the topmost priority. Plesae could you help me with your suggestions and ideas rom your experiences?

Attahced is an image. The marked up items are which I wanted to add to the walls in revit.

Create profiles that define the section of the elements that you want to add or subtract to the basic mass of the wall. Then, customize your wall types, adding those profiles as reveals or sweeps.

I don't really think sweeps or reveals are going to handle tilt-wall imbeds. If you must have them in your model, you'll need to make families for them.

 

The ledger beam could be a wall sweep.

I have been trying to the same. I created some embeds family type. If I need to add any component should I do the same? Or is there any other way.

Sorry, I read this question too quickly or too late at night. 🙂

My suggestion of using profiles for sweeps or reveals is valid for modifying the section of the wall, only. For other features that happen at specific points on the surface of the wall, use face-based families. If the family needs to cut the wall, use a void in the face-based family, that cuts the dummy surface of the template, and set "cut with voids when loaded" to yes. By doing this, the family will cut the wall on placement.

Right. Make yourself a folder just for tilt-up-wall accessories. Make generic face-based families for imbeds, temp bracing, or whatever else you need. If you set their Family Category to be Structural Connection, they can show up hidden-line style in a structural panel assembly elevation view even when they're on the opposite side. I think.

Just some notes, now that I've played around with this a bit... and just to further this thread, because I find it interesting...

 

So I've decided that all this sort of stuff should be set up with a family category of Structural Connections. That way they will work with the structural hidden line feature, and also can be controlled as a single category in a view's Visibility Graphics, or with a Filter, or whatever.

 

I've also decided that since there may be a lot of them in a project, that I will make them with zero visibility at the Course view detail level, only exposed plates and the like visible at the Medium view detail level, and then everything visible only at the Fine view detail level.

 

As an exercise, I made myself a 2" angle iron imbed as a line-based family. I didn't bother using a real angle iron profile...I was just experimenting. I couldn't get the host to cut though, because in the generic line-based template family there is no dummy host to set up a cut on. So I remade it as a faced based family. It works well, but I have to manually set a length after it's placed. Even though I've set the reference planes at the ends to be strong references (within the family), I don't get pullable grips at the ends in the project as I expected to get.
