I am designing a public library and have found several BIM bookshelves to use but they are empty. How can I add books to them?
You can create a family for this. Easiest method is a simple extrusion with a decal for the image of the books.
But more importantly, why do you want to add books? Is this a BIM requirement? Rendering?
Either way, adding geometry like this will bulk up your file size.
Revit is typically used for building design. Small details like these are therefore normally not used in a Revit project. All these small details would have a negative impact on Revit performance. If you really need those kind of details you could create one or more families for that.
Try to keep those as simple as possible. (maybe simple box with a decal on it (image).
Depending on which kind of output you are going to create, alternatively you could use other software to add these in post production (e.g photoshop, 3ds max).

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.
