Adding an upper reference level or plane in door family: Revit 2025.2

Hello, hope you all are doing well.

I'm creating new family that includes a lintel and an opening and is classified as a door family. What I want to do is to link a parameter that automatically extends the thickness of the lintel to the top level. I think it would be necessary to have a top level for this task, and I am wondering if there is a way to add a top level.

Thank you for reading this and for your help.

It is not possible to add an extra Level into a family. (although there is a two level based template)

You can have a Ref Plane set as Is Reference > Top. I don't know if this will work for what you are trying to do.

You might need to add more reference lines/planes and constrain them accordingly.

(although there is a two level based template) - But this wouldn't be wall hosted automatically

Is the lintel structural or decorative?   We typically do headers within the framing with beams or walls in the Project.  Better for tagging, scheduling and displaying.

...imbedded Wall in Basic Wall:

Thank you for your response!

The lintel is made using the structural framing family template. We also considered making it with walls, but the reason for using the structural framing category is to avoid the need for filtering to categorize them in the schedule. It seems inevitable to use filters if we make it in the wall category. Additionally, we'd like to create structural framing tags on structural plans.

Thank you for your response.

Can I create wall on that template?

Like I said: Beams or Walls.  Whatever works for you. What's not working for you? What's your question/issue?

...my point was to do it in the Project environment - not the Family environment.
