Adding a shared parameter and a Calculated Parameter

I am trying to get a total length from two different families however one is a railing so I can't use a shared parameter for both. In this screenshot, I am converting the length to a unitless number so I can use it in a calculated parameter that adds StripingLF and unitless length and get the total. Is there a way to do this or is this blank value an indicator that this isn't possible

To strip the length, you have to divide it by 1" or 1mm. Basically you would add (Unitless length/1")+StripingLF

my unitless Length field is already the length divide by 1'. are you saying I need to divide the unitless length by 1' against it will add correctly with the StripingLF shared parameter

For the shared parameter stripingLF, does it contain number value or is it length? I am adding shared parameter which is a number and it seems to add properly.

Sorry I misread your post. I am testing out and it doesn't seems like Revit is able to add calculated value to parameter that don't exist in the object. So only way is to create Shared parameter that shared between the railing and the other object category to make this work.

It looks like you can't add a shared parameter to a railing family for some reason. Do you know a way to do this?

Are you using Revit 2022 or above? You can add shared parameter to railing

Yes sorry, was looking in the wrong place, now both have the shared parameters. the Last step would be to associate the parameter for one type to be equal to the length of the railing. I am looking and it looks like you can only set it to a global parameter where length isn't showing up
