add stairs to an assembly

In my job, I have to constantly design platforms (mezzanines) for maintenance / sanitary access.  These platforms always have stairs (OSHA compliance). But when I go to create an assembly (for creating assembly tags and details), revit refuses to allow me to include the stairs. 

Is there a way to be able to include them?  Or is there a "work-around"?

I don't have a suggestion for a work around, but stairs (and a number of other elements) are specifically NOT allowed to be part of an assembly.

Maybe use a group instead?
