Add formula in temporary dimension string while in the process of moving/copying element?

Before I started using Revit I drafted with a software called Microstation.  This software allowed you to start a move command, move an object from one spot to another but before clicking the new location and finishing the operation, you could edit the field that reads out the distance you moved you object and divide it by half.  This was super handy for centering things.

I want to do something similar in Revit and it looks doable.  The only thing is that when you're in the process of moving an object, the temporary dimension string that indicates the distance you have moved your cursor loses its value when you try to enter any formula.  Is there a way to somehow make sure that the temporary dimension keeps its value when you edit it?

Don't think you can do that in Revit, however, there is a really easy/neat way of centering things while drafting.

All you have to do is draw a dimension string hitting 3 or more objects, and when you select dimension string just click equal, and it will auto center / make everything equal. If you dont want to see the dimension string after just delete it.

You can type in = 2000 - 175.5 or = 3167.5 / 2 or basically any mathematically formula to a dimension and Revit will do the math for you.

There is no way to "Keep the number" of the temporary dimension when you edit it. You just have to note it and then type it in with your formula.

I understand the method of adding dimensions to an object to center it but it takes soooooooooooooooooo much longer to do that than typing in /2 like I could do in Microstation. I know the software isn't the same but I just don't see why basic CAD functionality cannot exist in Revit.

if it makes you feel any better, I don't think you can do it at all in AutoCAD (Autodesk's MicroStation equivalent) without using Parametrics 😁.

we use both products in our office and there is definitely a divide between the two different user groups. I have to support them both, but it is interesting (sometimes amusing 😂) seeing the partiality the different groups have.
