Add Detail Number Parameter to Doors, Windows, Signs...

It would be great to be able to add the "Detail Number" parameter from Views to other families such as doors, windows, signs, etc. so that different types can be illustrated by referencing their detail number on a sheet, similar to a detail callout. The end result would be that a door type, for instance, is linked to an elevation placed on a sheet with the detail number shared between. The detail number would sync with the family parameter when it is changed on the sheet.

We are currently relying on manual entry for this and it can be cumbersome to chase that update through all the families when you simply need to reorganize a sheet.

Thank you in advance!

Please do not double post your issue. It's only going to serve to confuse everyone trying to help and possibly even you.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

'Detail number' is a built-in parameter only works for views placed in sheets and cannot be changed for other purposes. It won't seems to work for doors, windows and such kind of families bc them are usually detailed as legend components, in wich case any reference to original instances were lost, as all we know for the annoying fact of not tagging or retrieving parameters from them. Alternatives?

- Make "fake" callouts, as long a s you have detail or similar kind of views you want to "point" (checkmark 'Reference other view' and then select it from list below) when creating the callout from command ribbon.

- Create a 'Detail number' (preferable type) parameter for desired categories and then "link" it to a global parameter, so if the sheet/detail moves you only have to change it once for different instances, types or families.  You can even tag with it.
