Add Custom Modifier to Export Settings to DWG

Hello all,

I read extensively about limitations of the Export settings from Revit to DWG, but these answers are from 2014.

Is there any workflow to assign a custom modifier in Export settings to DWG? Could it be a shared parameter for example?

These are the only ones I have available, but in the Help page, it actually shows more than these, like

Is there any way to make this export more customisable? The altenative I have is to assign object styles, but then I'd need to check all content to align with that convention.

Thanks for all support

Those are the modifiers :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht:. If you pick on the + next to a category you get more options based on what is in the model. There is no way i know of, outside of the 3 "custom" options to add additional categories.

hi @hmunsell ,

for the Custom one, are those just a sort of prefix-suffix values? Can't I assign a paramter value coming from the model? I hoped this export would have more customisations, a bit like the IFC mapping txt file

it's been a long time since I played with them. Never got the "Custom" parameter to do what I wanted. It was more for something that doesn't relate to a Revit category like you wanted to add your Company initials to the layer. last time I used them I was assigning some parameters to categories to split up duct and pipe systems on export.

Best way to start with layer modifiers is to use a finished project with all the common Content Types, Worksets, Systems, etc... in it. That is why i never rally ended up using them. The content has to be there to make the modifiers. I'd have to prebuild all possible combinations into my template and hope no one made anything custom.

I usually export with default settings (AIA, BS, etc.) because it's a common approach across the few instances that i have been asked to export a DWG export with some structured geometry.

This client has a legacy system inherited from past standards that it's still in use in facility documentation, hence their need to have an agile solution that can use the revit model for all BIM uses, but that then can export dwg in the right standards.

I thought of a delimiter with workset attribution, but there will be some exceptions that won't work and that i'd need to pickup manually. On a vast list of models, this could lead to sure failure.

The only feasible approach would be to have object styles mapped for the scope, but the amount of work to be done on custom client requirements won't be recognised worthy of interest, so I'll end up doing it out of my scope.

It's quite frustating realising that year after years you can pick up some features that don't work between Revit and Autocad, even they're part of the same software house.

I could easily modify the layer structure in native CAD, given that I have everything setup, but it's frustating i can't set it up in the original program (Revit). I wonder if this could ever be solved in one of the other programs on the market.

We have over 80+ different client standards we deal with. luckily most of them use NCS or AIA formats. The few that don't, it's a question as to Not use Revit because we know it won't export properly (of course that's not preferred :lächelndes_Gesicht_mit_lächelnden_Augen:). In some cases, we have written custom routines (VBA, LSP, SCR, etc...) to "fix" the DWG's after their exported.  The few modifiers I have used successfully have been to separate Pipe and Duct systems, so they go on separate layers so the custom routines can reassign them.

We have quite a few projects still using CAD because the client standard is too stringent. not to mention the issue with Xrefs when exporting... that's a whole other string.
