Please forgive a newbie for asking what might seem as easy stuff. To me this is difficult
!
I want to do this:
-Make a family, say "recessed downlight".
-Make types, say "white finish" and "black finish".
-Add accessories, like "driver 350mA" and "driver 500mA" in order to choose the driver I need in the Lighting fixture schedule later on.
As of now, I dont need the driver to show in the Revit Model - I just want to be able to select it in the Schedule in order to get a complete and correct equipment list.
Hoping for some clearifying answers
!

You're looking to create shared parameters.
If you don't need it modeled, and it is just information, then put that information into one of the in-built Identity Parameters of the Family Type. All those Parameter Fields are available to Schedules. Additionally, there are in-built Instance Parameters that all Families have when place in a Project, such as "Comments" and "Mark". Those are also available Parameter Fields in Schedules.
Hi, Martjin
Thank you for answering. I guess this has to do with parameters and maybe nested families.
I think what I am looking for, is a schedule were the differerent accessories are listed along with the component itself - and that I can toggle the different accessories on or off as I want. I nearly made it yesterday:). If I succeed or nearly succeed I will post a file to show what I have done!
Hi, Barthbradley!
Thank you for answering. It seems to me that I must use parameters as you say, but I also think I need nested families, that I need to nest the drivers and other accessories into the components I am making. I am a lighting designer and the components in questions are mostly luminaires with drivers, filters and such. The goal is to end up with a schedule where everything is specified and priced. I would like the accessories to appear as a dropdown menu or similar, something like this:
That would be done by way of Nesting Shared Families into Host Families.
Look into Family Type Parameters. They would be perfect for this.
