Adaptive Annotation Tag Box

Hello,

We are currently doing a Scheme for a big Interior Design project, and tagging the Interior Materials and Elements.

The tag we are using for this stage includes not only the code of the material referenced to specs, but also a description of what that material is.

E.G. M04-Powder Coated Metal Frame Whatever

Problem is, I don't know how to make the tag box adapt to the text. I was thinking through Shared Parameters, but didn't get my head around it.

Anyone has suggestions?

there is no easy way around this as far as I know.

if you create a box (border that supports 6 characters then assign a (yes / no ) visibility parameter to that box then create another box (border) to support more or less characters and then create a visibility parameter for each instance (depending on number of characters)

box 1 = 1 character

box 2 = 2 characters etc.

this can also be done by creating types within the tag family and by selecting the correct type you will then follow your design intent.

another option is to show border on your label family

it may not be to your liking unless you can modify the size of the border.

The whole point for me is to avoid using a Text Box, so the process gets much faster.

I thought about something similar to your suggestion, but it sort of becomes similar time consuming as using a text box.

I agree

you can also create a Parametric family that allows you to change the dimension of the box as needed but again still involves user interaction.

if you create a list of acceptable abbreviations to identify the components then make a tag that allows for those abbreviations would be my best attempt at standardizing the process.

If you use a Material Tag, that tag will read the information that is in the Description property of the material. If you edit the Material Tag, simply by activating Show Border, the size of the box will adapt to any length of text that you have in the description. If you need other information in the tagh, then edit the description of the material.

The problem is that the box of the tag is not adapting, and i dont know how to make it adapt.

Any suggestions on that?

It may not be adapting in the family, but it will in project. But the width is limited to what you defined in the family, when the label content is longer, it will wrap to the next line(s), but the label border still covers the label correctly.

you can customize the tag showing 

Mark and description below

Mark ( box ) ( its a property of text style as mentioned by others ) and Description below

Mark + Description ( in on box ) both having same text styles..

These can be controlled in Editing family of material tag.

Select the label. Under Edit Types select the option to show the border.
