Active window changes when loading a family

Hi, All.

This thing doesn't happen every time, but maybe half the times when I load a family into a project. It's only when I use the "load family and close" button in the family file. When I click the button, Revit goes back to the project file but automatically changes the active window.

For example, I'm working in a project's plan view when I decide I need to download a new family. I usually open the new family file so I can make sure it's the correct units, category, etc. and then save the family into my folder. That's when I hit the button to load into project and close. But when the family file closes, the project file switches the active window. I usually get a message saying that I can't insert a family in that view.

Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

Are you saying that when you load the family into a Project from the family itself, you can't control which Project View will open -- that it doesn't automatically open the last Project View you were working in.  Yah, I hate that too.

Right. It's really not much more than an annoyance, but would like to fix if possible.

Yes, I've been meaning to complain about it for years, but like you said: it's just an annoyance. I share your frustration.

The software is over 20 years old and they still won't fix things like that (happened again to me just now).  So frustrating.  I don't need AI design tools, I just need Revit to work better.

It feels like this happens every time now, rather than just sometimes. Incredibly obnoxious.

It will actually open a new view that you didn't previously have open, to prevent you from placing it in the one view that you did have open.  If you're in an active view on a sheet, it will open a duplicate version of the sheet with no views activated.  I've even had it open a different section cut of the same item I was detailing.  It really doesn't want you to place the family you just edited.
