About the membrane layer in walls

I need to add wall layers, structure - substrate ( cement plaster) - finish ( thick less paint color)

now when i use the membrane layer (0 thickness) it never shows the color i choose, it only shows the color of the substrate layer.

as u all know i cant choose finish layer with thickness of zero, and also i don't want to use the painting tool because it work individually

i believe there is a professional solution for this issue.

the summary:  i need to a colorful thick less layer to the walls ...

You can't unless manually paint. Just change the finish material to have the surface color you want and assign it to the outmost finish layer.

(( Just change the finish material to have the surface color you want and assign it to the outmost finish layer))

then i have to give it a thickness.

and what is the use of the membrane layer then ?

Yes you have to give it thickness.  Membrane is for the material take-off schedule to show the area of waterproofing or vapor membrane without adding a physical layer (with thickness) to the wall assembly.

This is just Bull****. You have to be able to visually check the precence of it, where it is exactly. How it interacts, how it's joining in another wall. It should be possible to give it a colour or a line type or something. This is not handy at all.

Change the thickness to 0.8mm. That way you can asign the material and manipulate it in the detail view. The only downfall with this option is that you will have to assign the function as finish rather than membrane which won't show up on schedules.

Not the best solution but depending on why you need to do may work fine.

OK there is a work around. Great! Now think about how useful it would be to make it visible. 2 lines : room for error?

@Anonymous It would be really usefully for this to be shown and would reduce work when doing details. But unfortunately a work around is all we have at the moment until Autodesk program something in.

Revit should include an "Analytical Wall" system family, similar to the existing "Basic Ceiling" family. This would be a better alternative to the Paint tool for managing paint jobs, as it would support phasing, floor plan tagging, and other features that the Paint tool currently lacks.
