A simple stair challenge

The attached image is the recommended stair layout for dog-leg stairs from BS8541-2 2012 (table 1.8). Hopefully attaching it here isn't in breach of any copyright!!

Anyway the challenge is simple - can you recreate a stair that looks like this in plan using Revit?

The rules are simple - you MUST use the tools as they are OOTB - so for example, no manual numbering of treads using text! (not that any of you would of course... ;o) )  Families / VG properties can be modified as required but it must be possible to recreate the process in a new file.

As Revit is the industry leading* BIM platform in the UK I expect this will be easy to achieve although I confess I'm struggling (particularly with tread numbering and the appearance of the cut mark).

first person to manage it and post the file wins a Mars bar.  :o)

Cheers

K.

Thanks Constantin, that's useful however there are a couple of issues that I'm still struggling to overcome.

1) when using a multistorey stair it isn't possible to number the treads above the first floor.  Whilst I understand the logic here the requirement is to be able to number all flights.

2) If I circumnavigate the issue in item 1) by using a standard stair the the double cut mark doesn't display correctly

3) I still have no way of numbering the treads of the flight going up to the View Cut Plane so that it stops at the cut line - it always numbers everything tread / riser in the flight regardless.

Any thoughts?

Some thoughts of mine on this subject: http://revit4me.weebly.com/blog/archives/04-2015

Doing a mutisory stair-Stair by Component-  can be a chalenge in Revit.
At a first sight , the method proposed by Revit - Multistory Top Level option ( Properties > Constraints) seems to be OK...but not BIM style at all.
I took as an example a U shaped (two runs per level) that goes on a four levels buildig.

I've made a Run Schedule  wich contains informations about the number of Runs , Risers ,Treads...

Picture

For the moments I have only two Runs ,and the Schedule shows OK.
  • A.   Let's use Multi Story Top Level function:
The Run Schedule doesn't change even if now we have six Runs  and we'll not be able to use Stair Tread/Riser number function for the rest of four Runs.

Now, let's try three other methods :
  • B.  select the single U shaped (two Runs from Level 1 to Level 2) stair and Copy (Clipboard function) and then Paste, Aligned to Selected Levels . Select Level 2 and Level 3. The schedule updates for all the Runs and Stair Tread/Riser Number can be completed in Elevations and Section Views.
Picture

I've used  Mark- Field in order to diferentiate the Runs.
By default the Number of the Riser goes from 1 to the last riser of the Run (1 to 16  in my example) . In order to make the numbering continuos  you can change the start number for every level.

Picture

  • C.  Draw Runs for every Level : first on Level 1 then on Level 2 and on Level 3 using as reference, points from the first two Runs. This method is very like with method B and it can be used with slightly different heights of Levels.

  • D. Draw a single Stair from Level 1 to Level 4 ( six Runs with conecting landings) .Using this method the numbering of the Risers is continuos from Level 1 to 4 . Using this Method needs attention to the alignament of the Landings with Intermediate Floors (Level 2 and 3)

In conclusion , my opinion is that any one of B,C or D methods are better then metod A -Multistory Top Level, though none of the methods solve in a satisfactory way numbering in Plan Views.
