A pretty question happened, maybe about the View Range

1. Create an empty revit model, set two levels, one is ±0.00m, the other is 5.83m;

2. Then draw two basic walls with some layers and same type, the differences will show in the below screenshot;

3. Then create a plan view in LEVEL 2, and set the view range like the snap below;

4.The strange thing comes out, the two walls look the same in the 3D model, but in the LEVEL 2 Plan view we set just now, they shows different! also the detail level in LEVEL 2 is Fine, so who can tell me the reason?? where are the layers in the right one???

Hi

right wall ( because it’s not linked to level 2) it’s showing projections lines

left wall ( because it’s constraint to level 2 ) it allowing the section ( minus 1000 etc ) and showing a section of the wall..

its not about fine or coarse scale.

in fine view , of wall is cut then it shows layers, if it’s not cut but captured in the view range it’s showing projection line ( which you are relating to coarse scale )

hope that helps

cheers

good experiment though.

in general, it’s not a good idea to use cut plane below the current view level...

of you want that then use Lower level and use correct cut plane ..

This could be related to the documented behavior about how Unconnected walls display.  I'm betting that the wall that is not displaying any layers (not being cut) is the one that is Unconnected, and if you set it's Top Constraint to Level 2, the wall layers will appear.  Am I right?  If it does, then that wall is slightly lower (maybe just a millimeter lower) than the other wall -- or somehow Revit is seeing it that way.

To test the known behavior I'm referring to, select the Wall and set Top Constraint to Level 2, and enter a Top Offset value of -1 mm.  Wall layers should be remain visible.  Now, select the wall and change the Top Constraint to Unconnected. The Wall layers should disappear.

yes, I says Fine detail Level, just want to explain that I want to see the wall layers;

what makes me confused is that the two walls look the same in the 3d view, and have the same height level, BUT in LEVEL 2 plan view, they look different in my view range setting;

This may affect the view expression for sheets plotting; and I know if I use the left wall, I could solve my problem, however, I just want to know the reason why the right wall is faulty;

Also, I agree with u that it's better not to set the cut plain in minus level;

Thanks very much, sirSmiley (fröhlich)

thank u very much, sir;

In fact, I tried this test before ( something add or minus a -1mm for the top offset on the right, faulty wall), but unluckily, the right wall still shows like projective lines; only in the cases that I add more number on the top offset, it would show like the left, correct wall;

however, the 3d model for the two walls would be different if I add too much number on the top offset.

so this is a pretty pretty weird question, and I don't know the clear answer for it;

I cannot replicate your issue using the settings you showed in your screenshots.  I only surmised a possible explanation.  Maybe it isn't related to the known behavior I talked about.  Maybe it is a local issue.  If you want to post your file, perhaps we can be more helpful.
