3d View Not Visible

The 3d view of my project is not visible.  I'm using the default settings.  Literally my first time using the product, I'm following the "Autodesk Revit 2017 for Architecture, No Experience Required" course book.  Right after drawing the first project in plan view, it instructs me to open the default 3d view to see the progress, and there is nothing visible.  Project is visible in all plan views, elevation views, site plan and ceiling views.  I've tried adjusting the visibility and graphics settings, adjusting the section box, uninstalling and reinstalling the program and nothing has worked.  The 3d view works on the sample projects that come with Revit,  but not on any projects I start myself.

Note that so far this is only an issue when choosing a template other than none.

Please help!  I don't know what good a 3d visualization program is if I can't view my project in 3d.

Good day,

You mentioned that you checked various options to make sure that everything is correct, but a common problem is that the Crop Region is "out of range".

Make sure that you Crop Region is on, then extend it with the control points at the top, bottom, left or right.

If that doesn't do the trick, what you could also try is to go to any of your Plan Views where everything is visible, then select everything.

Then Revit will automatically jump to your "Modify / Multi-Select" window on your Ribbon.

Then look for this symbol:

3d-selection box.png

This is the Selection Box Command which will open a 3D view of selected elements.

Alternatively, after selecting everything in the Plan View, simply type in the shortcut command "BX" which will open the 3D View.

I hope this helps!

Ok without being able to look at your project it is difficult to guess what might be the reason. Maybe some settings or zooming influences what you do (not) see. If the sample project is looking Ok, than there is a great chance nothing is wrong with Revit istself.

It might be useful to create a new 3D view in your project (it can be found on the view tab).

Normally  when choosing that one your model will show up.

If not than something else is happening and we would have to look at your project.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

I am experiencing a similar issue where my #D view just doesn't show.

I have tried all possibilities, Indicated in your solution.

Clicking default 3D view, nothing shows.

Clicking an element in Plan and clicking selection box icon doesnt work either.

Another Item I have found is the Eye and Target Elevation numbers are as per image below. and when i reset these to a smaller number that still doesnt work.

Please let me know if you are aware of any other solutions.

I realize this thread was a while ago but I am having a similar problem. My 3d model will not show up but it is visible when i use the selection box feature as @rudi.roux showed. How do i get the model to also be visible in a standard 3d view after being viewing it with the selection box tool?

you may want to check "Imported Categories" in VG options. There may be a CAD file inserted far away from your model. That happened to me once, then I turn off all imported categories and got the problem fixed.

Yup. I had created a 3D view of some pipes. I had created the 3D view using the Selection Box (BX) command.  I later deleted the pipes but not the view I had created. When I clicked on that little house icon to see the whole building in 3D, nothing showed. I went back into the Project Browser and deleted the 3D view I had created (it was called "3D"). I then clicked on the house icon and the default 3D view came up.

I went back and created the pipes and another 3D view. This time, I renamed the view I created to "3D Pipes". Now there was no name conflict and the house icon 3D view was able to be viewed even though I had not deleted the view I had created.

Bottom line, this was all caused by a naming conflict.

I am using Revit 2018.

you can click the selection box (BX) from 3d view then go back to the plan and drag the selection box as shown.

6 years on from the original question, and this is the solution I was struggling to find to the same problem.

Thank you!
