3D Section Box is not Perpendicular (not aligned with Building) as True to North Angle is 0

Hello All,

When we receive Revit link where we need to acquire coordinates, we notice they do not use angle relative to true north feature and when we check the model in 3D, the section box is not perpendicular (not aligned with building) which is painful. We must use their coordinates because of BIM Execution Plan, etc.

Is there a way to fix it other than rotating 3D section box manually?

You should check whether the file you received contains scope boxes that are aligned to the building. You can copy those over to your model with the clipboard. The 3d section box is up to the host (ie your) model to make do with the linked file.

If this is a minor misalignment, it can be problematic in a number of ways. You should be coordinating with the sender about it but it shouldn't interfere with acquiring coordinates or anything else with your model.

Ok, I can explain the whole process. Typically, Lead Appointed party shares a shared coordinates/grids/levels model with us (Appointed party) and according to BIM Execution Plan we must acquire those coordinates which makes sense. I noticed that majority of architects do not rotate their project North and then we need to use scope box so the floor plan looks perpendicular on a sheet but this is not a problem. The problem is if the building is rotated and no Project North rotation is being used, then when you go to 3D view the section box is not aligned with the building and this is really painful rotating it manually and we are trying to stay away from add-ins (only use in-house ones). Hope this makes sense.

Sorry, it does not.

It's your model. Set it up appropriately after acquiring coordinates. You just need to make sure that it lines up with their model for coordination. Again, if their requirements do not align with your standard set-up procedures, you best bet is to talk with them about how they set-up their model. I occasionally come across some other firms doing unusual things. They may be able to help.

@RSomppi, thanks for the reply and advices, very appreciated. What about the initial question? Know any ways to fix that other that rotating project north?
