3D Scanner/Revit/Property Management

Hello,

I am interested in finding out about the technology to implement a 3D Scanner to get AsBuilt data into Revit, which can then be used by a Leasing Company. I understand that Revit has the BOMA standards embedded. What I don't quite understand is what technology is needed and how it all fits together. For example, if I have a building and use a 3D scanner to get point cloud data, what other software do I need to massage it and import it into Revit? After it is imported, do I need other software? What BIM dimension is this considered, still 3D?

Once I have the as built, I'd like to use some VR software (is that Navisworks?) to show the building to potential clients. Additionally, the leasing of the building could be by different budget codes. Maybe one space is budget code 1000 and the space directly across is 1010 but they are under the same agency. Can this be done in Revit? Or is there an addin that would be helpful?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you,,,Carol

thank you. i was looking at the Leica BLK360 scanner, which has a Revit plug-in. Does Recap make that unnecessary?

I can't say. I don't know anything about the Leica BLK360 scanner Revit plug-in.

I've just started using scanning technology and point clouds, so my knowledge is somewhat limited.

The scans need to be processed before they can be used. We have Trimble equipment and they have their own software for processing. ReCap will also do the processing. If you are using them for as-built data, you will need to trace over them once you put them in Revit. If all you need is a visual representation, the point clouds might be adequate. They won't have any information other than a 3D picture.

VR and AR can be achieved but anything much beyond knowing that it can be done is out of my wheelhouse.

Thank you, that was very informative. We will be creating as-builts and I kinda assumed there was more work but seems like it is a good start.

I don't see Revit playing any roles in the equation based on your workflow.  Skip it unless you need to involve demolition/renovation.
