3D scaling in 3D view

Hi all -

In my previous job someone explained to me how to scale the model visual size in a 3D view, using the navigation wheel, so I can fit in the site background image until the size fits accurate to the image that it's there. I didn't had to change the crop view or size of image, but the step was scaling like zooming in/out until it was the size I need it. I'm not sure if I'm using the wrong commands, or what it was. I think it was using the 'zoom' option of the navigation wheel but it doesn't do what I want I need it to do. Hope what I'm trying to ask makes sense.

I added an image below. The red is the size I need to scale the model.

Change your Projection Mode to Perspective.

Hi - thanks for that tip, but that's not what I'm looking for. Im looking to zoom/scale the model on the view to make it fit on the image that I have behind. I cant remember what is it that I used to do to scale it how I want it - I can pan it and position it but I cant remember how to make it look small or big within the frame.

Thanks.

hmm...why not create a floor plan to represent site and then place DECAL on top. Then you can scale the google map image on top of the model and scale it to fit your need. Then you can adjust your 3d view to suit your view.

You sure about that? You want to resize the model within the crop boundary; right?  That is, the crop boundary remains stationary and the zooming occurs within the boundary.

I did something similar, only created a site family and placed a material on top. The site family is the o/a size of the measured site image (allowing for scaling)

Here's the (2020) RVT too...

Turn off all except Revit elements in visibly graphics. Hit zoom to fit (ZA) then turn on all needed.

So, let me see if I got this straight, @_Vijay...you are suggesting to the OP that they turn off all Revit Elements under View Visibility & Graphics Overrides, and then "hit" "ZA" (e.g. Zoom to Fit) --- and "then turn on all needed" (your words; not mine).

Is that about the size of it?

What the fucck is this going to accomplish???  I cannot wrap my brain around this one.  Help me out.  What am I missing? Sorry, I'm not the brightest bulb in the chandelier tonight.

Think you missed "except"...

@Michelle_ChedrauiPerhaps you mean right-clicking the navigation wheel and using "decrease/increase focal length". If you're missing navigation bar turn in on under view -> user interface, show navigation wheel, right click to show the option.

Correct - I remember it was a thing about zooming in/out using the navigation wheel until size was matching the size of the background image and then I will just pan and move it to right location in view to be on top. It's hard to explain but I promise we did this for like 4 projects and I cant remember the trick 😣

Never done a decal before - this might be a workaround - let me try this one out.

I have the navigation wheel - but where's the decrease/increase option you are mentioning?

Go to your perspective view (or change to perspective view as Bradley mentioned), right click the navigation wheel and you should find it there.

Adjust Focal Length (perspective view)Adjust Focal Length (perspective view)

that only zooms in/out the whole window (like if you want to look at an element closer) but it doesn't scale decrease/increase size of the model. Not that I want to scale down/up the actual revit model - it's just visually - like in photoshop when you scale something down to make it accurate with a render or whatever.

You need to set your Projection Mode to Perspective.

I did something lol - but couldn't follow what I did. Not sure if I clicked shift, or just clicked my mouse. Increased the model size visually but it got stuck and couldn't scale it down again.

Which should be the steps for this?

Good. Now use your wheel's Zoom function.

Use your Wheel's Center Tool to place the Center where you need it to be, and then press and hold Zoom while dragging.
