3D Printed Homes - What programs are used?

Hi

I expect this post to be in the wrong forum location but I dont know where to actually post, sorry ahead of time.

Anyway, I know that people/companies are now starting to 3d print full scale homes ect. I was wondering if you knew what programs any of these people/companies are using.

Honestly, i could not find any info on the programs, only that they are printing homes.

 - I think i may have read that Autodesk may have purchases a 3d printing company or something in the past.

On a side note, i know its possible to print revit building designs on a small desktop printer, I just did some hours ago. But I want to try to find out and if possible play around and learn the programs that companies use.

Thanks

... hi @jazzking2001

... these are few of the companies that are really printing complete houses :

... they are describing their processes

... you can go and ask them how they are doing it, machines, times, materials... etc...

What is it exactly that you are asking about? 3D Printing (e.g. making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file)? Or, 3D Modeling Software?

Thanks for the reply.

I know how to make 3d houses using Revit.

However, i am assuming that if I wanted to actully 3d print my house design in real life, I would need to use another program.

 - Lets say i own a 3d house printing truck and its outside of my house (a complete lie but just a example). what program would i use to convert my revit house design into a format that my 3d house printing truck could print my design in real life

hope that makes sense

From whom did you rent your 3d house printing truck?  I'd ask them.

Dude, are you punking us?  If so, you're doing a good job.  I think now it's time to step away from the computer, and slip back into your straitjacket.

Have a wonderful day. Try it without drugs.

Where did that come from?

I asking for information that i do not have.

- i have stated 2 times already i dont have a truck (even if i did, so what?)

what i want is to know what programs are used so that i could learn how to use them = in the future i may be able to find a job that requires knowledge on how to use the giving program

Thus, you are being rather disrespectful to me because i am trying to get information on topics which i do not know about to further my knowledge base.

I think its you, not me that needs to look at themselves.

Sorry. I seriously though you were having fun with us and you'd appreciate the humor. Guess I was wrong.

3D house printing is a manufacturing process. It is in it's infancy. It will be some time before it becomes properly regulated and mass adopted.  Right now, there are only a hand full of companies in the world that have developed the technology.  Each are using proprietary software, methods and materials.   To learn more, you ought to Google it.

P.S. I think you are smart to be looking at a career in that industry. If I was 20 years younger, I would be.

Sorry for the misunderstanding....i not rly good with humor >>'

Anyway, thats for the info but you made a great point, which i did not think off, in that each company has their own program (you cant just DL it) at this point in time

Thanks again

Think of it like the driver for any printer. It is specific for the printer, or truck in your case.

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

So I think most 3d printers use some form of G-Code to drive the actual printing process.  Like others have said the tool that writes the G-Code is somewhat like a printer driver. So typically there is some piece of software between your authoring tool and the 3d printer.  That piece of software will consume your 3d file type or some kind of generic 3d file type your authoring software can create.  Or in some cases your authoring tool can directly write g-code, but I suspect that is pretty rare.

It's a Wikipedia Page, but do check it out later. Hover your mouse over some of the hyperlinks. I think you'll find one or two of them amusing.

I saw it was Wikipedia, but I am still not clicking. Although if we ever meet in person, remind me to tell you a story about clicking questionable links at work. You will probably get a kick out of it.  Lachender Smiley

I bet each company use their own proprietary program and they can sell technical/training/insurance when you rent the equipment.  However, if you are to print your own livable house, and not a doghouse in the backyard, then guessing and learning the program is the least to be worried about.  Think Building permits, Inspections, Trade coordination, Future repair/alterations.  Are you a licensed contractor?  If not, I would let the printing company deal with the headaches and concentrate on providing a good digital model to them.
