I'm starting to lean towards doing more of my details in 3D. I have created a detail in it's own Revit file, locked the 3d view and annotated but am now perplexed at how to get that view imported into the drawing and placed on a sheet. I feel that I'm on the right track in creating a separate file for each detail and importing as needed as it isn't possible to do 3d drafting views (man I wish it was).
To be clear, I have been able to get it into the drawing in a few ways by saving as an image, pdf, etc, but they all seem to come in pixelated.
It seems like the best way to accomplish this is to create the 3D details and have them available in a revit project template. Or you could insert your 3D details via Link Revit under the insert tab. Hmm
So far, the best results that I have been able to get is a simple screenshot of Revit and cropped in paint, then inserted into a drafting view as a JPEG in Revit so that I get the view title and ability to refer to it with markers. It's nowhere near the resolution that a native detail would be. In the attached screenshot, you can see a 3D detail that I did from the actual model in Revit on the upper right of the page, and my cropped JPEG in the lower right. As far as I can tell, the only way that I will be able to do this is by using a picture of the detail. I could import the model and go that route but I don't really want a bunch of stuff floating around in the drawing itself.
