2D floor plan solar studies

Is there a way for Revit to show accurate shadows on floor plans?

When you show shadows in a floor plan, Revit only casts shadows for objects in view, essentially acting as if all elements above the cut-plane disappear and no longer cast a shadow. I want to be able to see shadows for all elements of my model as they would exist in the floor plan at my specified cut-plane. There may be a workaround whereby you include in your view range levels above your cut-plane, and then hide obstructing objects such as a roof. This workaround, however, will not address objects that traverse the cutplane and that you don't want hidden (e.g., the upper portions of walls that traverse your cutplane will not cast shadows). The workaround will similarly not work for imported masses, such as you might import from Rhino.

To reiterate: I want Revit to cast shadows for all objects in the model, whether or not they lie above my cut-plane. For example, even though the roof is above my cut-plane, it should be casting a shadow.

This question was asked about a decade ago here, but without a solution. Hopefully the situation has improved.

Orient a 3D View to Floor Plan View.

Oops. Misunderstood you.  You want to see shadows cast from model elements above the Cut Plane. Right?

Right! I've managed to fake it with a camera view (video here), but that seems like an imperfect solution.

I don't why they keep "archiving" these requests. It's been a requested feature for years. Guess no one sees these ideas posted to vote on them.  Autodesk probably doesn't think there is enough interest.  Start a new Idea Post and Link me to it. I'll vote on it.

The new idea has been submitted here.
