why does a toposolid have a floor level as a reference? that doesn't make any sense. now if I move the floor level up or down the topo moves with it, which is exactly what I don't want to happen. How do i work around this?

You need to create a level for your toposolid. Unless you do want the topo elevation refer to the floor level height.
