2017 LT Missing Family

I have just purchased and downloaded Revit 2017 LT and have spent all night trying to fix Autodesk's issue with missing families.  I have downloaded the .xml files that Tony Michniewicz posted on 5-20-16 (6 months and still no real fix) and have gone through the steps to unistall and reinstall the program with the correct xml files in place.  The Content Library was then 2.5gigs so I assumed the families would be downloaded as well...this was not the case.  I am now completely frustrated.  I am asking you to provide a step by step bullet proof guide on how to load the families so I can use this program as intended and purchased so i can get back to learning the program I'm subscribed to.

Tell me, what happens when you go to the default Content Library Locations? Are they empty? I must say, Tony's post assisted me in resolving the same issue on a colleague's desktop. 

The general path where your Revit Content/Families will be installed is:

For Revit 2017     -     C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2017\Libraries

Where are you stuck? Any error messages?

I was able to access that folder by consulting an IT college- it turned out
the folder was in the wrong spot and needed to be re routed somehow. But
now that I have the path corrected I still cannot find walls as a family
category. I found windows, doors,etc. Is there somewhere else I will find
walls? or is it under a different name? please let me know thanks

Walls are system families. There is not a content folder for any system families. They can ONLY exist in project files. New wall types are created by duplicating a type that is close to what you want and then making modifications to it.

I'm glad you sorted out your Families and as @loboarch already mentioned, Walls are System Families and they are created by duplicating Family Types to create new walls to suit your project needs. 

I'm not sure if you're country standards are Imperial or Metric, but I added two default Construction Templates for you. You'll notice that there are already a couple of Wall Types which should get you started. (The templates are for Revit 2016, but it will upgrade once you open them and then you can "save as" them resulting in Revit 2017 templates). I only loaded my Metric Content for now in Revit 2017 so I figured that I'll share both Revit 2016 Templates for now. 

THIS VIDEO will show you how to create/edit Wall Types. 

The default location of your Revit 2017 templates should now be located at: 

Metric    -   C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2017\Templates\US Metric

Imperial -   C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2017\Templates\US Imperial
