Visual Studio 2022 Configuration for writing Revit Addins

Hi all,

I have a long-term aim of writing Revit Addins and my IT dept has recently installed Visual Studio Professional 2022. I want to ensure that I have everything needed before I attempt to start so I'm hoping that users here could confirm what workloads and optional components are required.

For Workloads, I only have .Net Desktop development installed and the below screenshot shows exactly all of the optional components (which appears to be none). I'd appreciate it if someone with experience in this area could overmark any of the optional components that I should have so that I can get my IT dept to add them to my installation.

@Barry_LothianUHEVE you should think to change to Visual Studio 2026.

You should add some individual components in .NET, for Revit .NET 8 Runtime and .NET Framework 4.8 targeting pack. (.NET 10 will be use in the next Revit version.)

Here is a image. In my case I have basically all .NET Framework targeting pack version installed.

Thanks for the advice. 

At this stage I am currently only working on projects in Revit 2023 though I do expect to move onto newer versions next year so I'm not expecting to be using the next version of Revit for quite a while yet. When that changes, I will make a request for my IT dept to provide a preconfigured installation for VS 2026 with all of the necessary targeting packs.

This is my recommendation after dedicate working with Development Add-in using Revit SDK

Some check list you need to check careful 
- If development for version Revit <= 2024 please consider install SDK 4.8 and 4.8.1

- If development for version Revit >= 2025 : Consider installation SDK .NET match with .NET requirement 

- Download and install sample SDK : https://aps.autodesk.com/developer/overview/revit
