To Streamline error marking and error fixing process for Any Revit Project.

Objective: To Streamline error marking and error fixing process for Any Revit Project.

Background: In any Revit, lots of changes are required to be made in the revit model from conceptual stage (Preliminary design) to final design stage. The stakeholders are Client, Checker, Reviewer, Third party consultants, contractors and error fixer involved in this process. Many iterations are required in number of revisions. To track these Error comments (marked by Checker, Reviewer, Fixer), Name of error marker, Error fixer, Date, time, Revision number etc. is very tedious and time consuming job. In general PDF is used to do these activity, some users are marking errors on paper and some are using software like bluebeam. Limitation of such third party PDF software is, while fixing errors user required to open two windows, one having Revit project and the other having PDF viewer. In general user is using two monitors or big monitors. And will be difficult to identify the exact location on Sheet and Views.

Following Solution I am suggesting …

  1. Revit Engineer will model the preliminary design.
  2. Each sheets will be converted to one PDF having page numbers same as sheet name.
  3. It will be checked by Reviewer, Checker or third party consultant.
  4. Errors can be incurred because of clash detection with Architecture, Structure and MEP.
  5. Autodesk should provide two ways to mark errors, First is within Revit and the other, Autodesk has to provide some free Viewer/Editor having smart error marking facilities similar to Bluebeam.
  6. In Revit, some functionality to be provided to open sheet wise PDF in background (Can be having different transparency) with error marking facilities similar to Bluebeam.
  7. If it is outside revit, free Viewer/Editor Autodesk has to provide (kind of DWF viewer) in which similar functionalities to be included which are in bluebeam.
  8. Following error records to be stored along with each error marked: Error comments (marked by Checker, Reviewer, Fixer), Name of error marker, Error fixer, Date, time, Revision number etc.
  9. Some mechanism Autodesk has to provide to manage these error records in some database, to be used it later.
  10. While fixing the above errors, functionality to be provided to link page wise PDF with each sheet, means when user opens sheet number 1, page 1 of PDF should be opened in background.
  11. User can toggle between PDF view and Sheet view (Should have an option to change transparency level of PDF)
  12. Should have an option to view Revision wise errors, and write error fixers comment
  13. To fix the errors user makes respected view current, then also while he zooms into view, automatically PDF should be zoomed accordingly.

Benefits:

  1. Single Revit model having all revision information (Who has marked, who has fixed, respected comments etc.) from first version to last version
  2. Single monitor is required to work
  3. No need to buy additional software like Bluebeam to mark and track errors
  4. Since PDF is positioned on the sheet, hence identify error location will be easier for error fixer.

Autodesk might be having some plug-ins having above functionality, If so please suggest.

Regards,
Rajesh

Dear Rajesh,

Thank you for your query.

I am aware of the Revit Model Review subscription module:

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=revit+model+review

You might also want to check the Autodesk Exchange AppStore for other offers:

https://apps.autodesk.com/RVT/en/Home

There are certainly even more out there that may be interesting for you to evaluate as well.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for your quick reply, I have already reviewed Model Reviewer earlier.

Model reviewer is mainly to mark error based on certain configured rules.

I am suggesting something different than model review, Need to mark and track errors which are related to change in design, e.g. change the room length, change the width of staircase etc. Suppose I need to ask revit user to change the design as per the snaps I am having, For these kind of errors, PDF is the better way as user will get the freedom to paint anything on PDF file, without affecting the revit model.

Bluebeam is having these kind of functionality. Suggesting to add similar in Revit itself, to reduce the dependency.

Regards,
Rajesh
