See mechanical systems by level in 3D view?

I'm working with Revit 2020, doing exercises from a book based on Revit 2018.

The book shows a photo of the author's 2nd floor mechanical systems in 3d view- I can't figure out how to do this in my project because the roof always covers the systems when I go to 3d view. Right-clicking on the cube and selecting plan view doesn't help- I cant see my mech systems at all when I do that. how can I obtain this mystical 3D view?

here is the authors view:

here are my mechanical systems I want to be able to view in 3D:

And here is what Iā€ƒ see when I go to 3D view:

Hi @adelarueter ,

Is this an API question or UI question?

Please note that this discussion forum is dedicated to programming Revit using the Revit API.

Therefore, you cannot expect an answer to a question such as yours relating to installation, product usage or end-user support issues here.

You should try one of the non-API Revit product support discussion forums instead for that:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-api-forum/this-forum-is-for-revit-api-programming-questions-not...

The people there are much better equipped to answer your question than us programming nerds.

I hope this clarifies.
