Run energy calculation using API (also illuminance calculations)

Hi,

I've been told that I can run energy calculations using the API.
I've been looking through the API and the samples provided, but I cant seem to find anything that actually runs the calculation.

The same goes for for illuminance calculations, I've been told that this can be done using the api as well.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I guess you have found this page, but it has no samples 😞

Dear Erik,

Thank you for your query.

Yes, I have heard that kind of thing too.

The Building Performance Analyis team BPA are the guys who would know:

For instance, they brought out the daylighting tool, and many others besides:

You might want to take a look at that and see how it works.

You can certainly emulate that and implement similar behaviour in your own applications as well.

I assume you have seen this discussion on Space Adjacency for Heat Load Calculation on The Building Coder?

http://thebuildingcoder.typepad.com/blog/2013/07/football-and-space-adjacency-for-heat-load-calculat...

I that the kind of thing you are aiming for?

It ends saying that "I am already working on the calculations and the export to XML and PDF, but I cleaned up the project to only reflect the data collection part. If you are interested in the rest too, I can send the whole project over once it is complete."

So it sounds like Jasper Desmet had a suitable system set up at the time.

No idea whether it was manual or fully automatied.

You might try asking him. He is on LinkedIn:

Please do let us know how you end up solving this.

Thank you!

I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,

It was actually Ian Molloy who is a sr product manager for BPA at Autodesk who told me.

He showed me both the tools the other week as well as insight 360 and I immedietly asked if there was an API for this and he said all the things had an api except Insight 360, but that is just very nice combinatorics.

I've been working with both tools, I've not always been a programmer 😃

Yes, but I dont want to create a energy calculator. I want the energy analysis in revit to calculate energy for me so I can just read the information from the objects like I can if I press the button my self.
And I really want the daylight analysis to calculate the illuminance for me and return the points calculated with their values, because that would lead us to some awesome workflows.

Are you saying there is no way to run the simulation through the API?

Thanks

Erik

Dear Erik,

I am definitely not saying that.

In the opposite, if it has an API, you can call it.

Can you ask Ian for more details, or who to ask for them?

Cheers,

Jeremy

Okey, Im back with some info.
The energy calculations can be run using the API (for Green building studio)

google for Green building studio API and there will be plenty of information.

There is no API for illuminance calculations avaliable.
