I have Revit 2024, a colleague sent me a file under Revit 2025. For that reason, I'm unable to open the file. If I perform an upgrade to Revit 2025, will I loose my other files?

No, you will not lose you files saved by a previous version. The newer versions of Revit will upgrade files save by older releases when they are opened. The old releases cannot open files save by the newer ones, though, so it is a one-way street forward only.

By the way, please note that this is not the best place to ask such a question. This discussion forum is dedicated to programming Revit using the Revit API. You will normally get more optimal answers to all questions regarding product setup, optimisation, usage, best practices and other end-user support issues in one of the non-API Revit product support discussion forums instead:
