Dear Autodesk,
This has been a problem since RVT 2022 and now still prevalent in 2024 . The Infrastructure categories that can be created from the "Generic Model" Family environment has missing functionality.
You can not post-cut any of the new Infrastructure categories in the project environment with a "generic model" or "structural framing" intersecting void geometry.
This includes all the All Bridge Categories, Signage, hardscape etc.
This functionality is essential to be able to cut the underside of concrete deck geometry with Girder hogs, Drainage scupper holes, Junction boxes in in-situ bridge barriers, anchorage holes for girders and other elements for hold down bolts just to name a few scenarios.
If these families originated from a "Generic Model" template, why are we not able to cut voids in the geometry in the project as you would do with other core families.
This functionality is needed and results in the design firms having to resort back to using generic models or other categories which are not correct for Bridges and infrastructure.
Can this be resolved?
Kind Regards
Sean
HI @Sean.Lawrence
Kindly Raise this question at Revit Structure Forum, this forum is only for Revit API based queries.
From My Knowlege, it is not possible to cut One family using another family abutment. Kindly Use Wall and use Abutment family that will works fine.
I posted this in the API section of the forum due to the fact that the "Infrastructure" categories lack the functionality to be cut when loaded, but I'm happy for it to be moved if you think this is not relevant. (Mods please feel free to move to structure forum, as I cant do this).
I think there may be a mis-understanding in your answer, I have Bridge Revit Families, "Abutments", "Bridge Decks", "Piers" etc. Before Revit 2022 these were "Generic Models" with a sub-category, and we could slice and cut holes in these families with a "Structural Framing" or "Generic Model" Void families.
We would like to use the new appropriately named families with correct bridge elements, but due to the inability to "post-cut" geometry in the project we can not use these new categories in most scenarios. Pre-Cutting in the family before loading into project is a tedious work around, as a lot of geometry is a result of an element being placed (eg junction boxes, expansion joints, light pole penetrations etc.)
The new Infrastructure categories, from my understanding were supposed to behave like a re-branded generic model. I can cut "generic models", "specialty equipment" and other categories but not any of the newly introduced categories.
See below for image of Generic model on the left, cut with the same void, but the "Bridge Decks" family can not be cut.
Kind Regards
Sean
