The Revit 2016 download page gives me the option to "Try Online". This option seems to fire up a VM with Revit pre-installed, allowing me to work remotely and have deep A360 integration out of box. Impressive!
This raises a few questions:
- Can I build and deploy Add-Ins for these remote Revit instances? If so, do these need Add-Ins need to be hosted publicly (e.g., in an "app store")?
- Is the API available to Add-Ins on remote Revit instances different from Revit proper? Are there limitations to the .NET libraries I can leverage (e.g., writing to the file system)?
- Can we (as users and developers) expect to have desktop and cloud-based releases of Revit for the foreseeable future? Will Revit Desktop be phased out in favor of a cloud only solution within the next few years?
Thanks in advance, and a major kudos to the Revit dev team for its great work on cloud-enabled Revit!
