Recording Executed Commands

Anonymous
Not applicable

I am trying to write a script that records the commands that a user executes. Basically, I want to record the time and the command Id in a text file. I have written an External Application and used DocumentChanged Events. But, these events only report whether elements are modified and I don't know how to figure out what command has been executed that resulted in the modification. I greatly appreciate it if you could help me with this issue.

@n_mulconray

Thanks for the fantastic reply, this is going to be very useful.

The plan is to get this into a database but then similarly visualise it in PowerBI.

That is how I'm currently tracking Dynamo usage stats (Push into database and visualise in PowerBI).

Yes, I'm from New Zealand. I'm familiar with Kiwi Codes work and know that it was developed here in New Zealand but don't actually know them personally. Some quite nice Add Ins though!

Also thanks for your input Jeremy (and actually so many useful posts all over the forum!).

This is something I'm going to explore as well, reason being users aren't always connected to the VPN.

But If I'm reviewing journals files with "a tool" I can look at some historic Revit session journals.
