Import gbXML with analysis data in Revit

I do not think it is a typical API question, but it still is about software development and data integration.

We have an independent software product which calculates things like ventilation flows and heating and cooling loads. This software product can also read IFC and gbXML models created bij Revit. Our clients demand a data export/import into Revit, so that all analysis data can be saved in their Revit project.

One of our key solutions may be putting our analysis data into a different gbXML file, and to use the "Import gbXML" feature in Revit to include our data in the Revit model. We want to look into this, whether this option is suitable for us.

Our questions about Revit's gbXML import are:

  1. Obviously you don't import all data from the gbXML file in Revit. Eg. You don't want to change the space area, as Revit already has defined the space area well. What are the key parameters you import from gbXML?
  2. How do you relate the data to the building instances? By GUID, by room/wall number/name or different?
  3. Do you have an example gbXML file created by an external analysis tool (including an example RVT project)?

Thanks for your answers.

Hello, @Anonymous, about 1.5 year ago I asked this question to the support directly, their answer was "Revit imports data from Results section of gbXML and uses Names of elements - zones and spaces - to assign those data to Revit's elements". It was before changing xsd to 5.10 where instead of Names we see IDs in gbXML (aim50678 etc.) so now it is a total mess...

gbXML from Green Building Studio contains results for zones: supply airflow, heating and cooling loads (they are wrong, be careful!), but Revit sees only supply airflow and imports it only. How to make its see other types of results, especially for spaces, is a mystery - I think they haven't realised this feature at all.

Anyway, I think you should ask this question ether in GBS forum or in general Revit.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for your reply!

I am hoping one of the #Autodek team still replies to my post. If not, I am afraid your answer is right.

I tried to fill in some random numbers in the gbXML file and it didn't seem to work for me.

Thank you for your advice to put the question in the other forums as well. Will do that!

Best regards.

Dear Gvgorp and Nikolay,

Thanks to Nikolay for the answer... I was hoping someone with some experience in this area would jump in.

I have none.

Since you ask, I will pass this on to the development team and see whether they have anything to add.

I am sure posting in the other dedicated groups is a very good idea as well.

Cheers,

Jeremy

A suitable forum might be 'Building Performance Analysis':

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/building-performance-analysis/ct-p/2020

It includes a sub-forum named 'Green Building Studio':

Cheers,
