I want to talk to AutoDesk executives now! Issue Toolbars/icons and impact.

I want to know the very truth to the heart. I want to physically talk to AutoDesk headquarters.

Is AutoDesk not supporting toolbars/icons ever again?

This issue is hot. Pissing a ton of AutoCad users. Why get rid of a tool that is most excellent and in use over 25 years.

Does AutoDesk realize this change to Ribbons may cause a lot of contract designers to lose a lot of jobs. No experience using it.

And I tried Ribbons. It sucks big time. Too many button clicks searching. At least a month of learning to get used to somewhat.

So is AutoDesk for sure getting rid of toolbars/icons? If not, is the the support for toolbar/icons dead?

Can you be more specific, pelase? Are you refering to Revit and its API? What particular feature (or lack of it) in the API is this related to?

I have a guy at work that works just by the menu bar above.  No toolbars or ribbons. 

that is the first generation AutoCad way of doing things in design from AutoCad.

But sources tell me Toolbars and Menubar is going away for good. 

In the new 2015 version, there is no classic view.  You have to know how to custom make your own toolbars and not many know how to do that.

Also the classic menu bar is not shown as default.  You have to know to type in "menubar" and type "1" so it will show up.  Then type in "ribbonclose" to get rid of the ribbons.

I want to know why AutoDesk is deciding to get rid of the classic toolbars.  Too many I've talked with hates ribbons. 

Do the developers understand that many ppl will lose job opportunities if AutoCad goes strictly with ribbons only?????????  Good experienced designers will lose jobs because they were never trained in ribbons.  Toolbars is all they know and have used in the last 25 years.  It's like going from board drafting to Cadd.  And back then, many good designers never found work again because they did not posess the on-the-job experience on Cadd.  School certifications won't help.  I spent over $1000 to get certified in Solid Works.  Still can't find work with Soild Works because of no on-the-job experience of 2 years plus.  I'm afraid the same will go with AutoDesk changing strictly using ribbons only.  Besides that, ribbons is horrible because it makes you click your mouse too many times and use your brain to search and find more than it should when you want to concentrate on your design momentum.

I do sympathise with your issue. But I do believe your words are wasted
here. This is the Revit API forum, we've never had the luxury of toolbars
and it's just the way of life for us. Your comments would be better placed
in one of the AutoCAD forums.

Personally I only use keyboard shortcuts in AutoCAD, the toolbars and
ribbons just take up too much space and are slower for most things. 🙂

Scott is right, wrong forum. Although I understand your point, I think AutoDesk has been very user friendly concerning toolbars. Up till the 2014 version, they where supported. When you take a look at microsoft office. They sudently switched to the ribbon in the 2003 version, without any "go back to classic" option. Sure a lot of users where pissed, but now, we've all adapted and it's is seldom mentioned. So you can also look at it the other way, Autodesk gave everyone 10 years to get used to the ribbon 🙂 And like mentioned before, I Revit we never knew toolbars and we all survived 🙂

in Revit there were ToolBars up to version 2009.

Ribbons have been introduced in version 2010 (resulting in an increased menu reaction time in the first versions).

I've known Revit since version 4.5 when it first became an Autodesk product and in all the version since then I never saw toolbars like in AutoCAD. I guess you mean the "toolbar" on the leftside on the screen but I don't consider it being a toolbar, In a way it already was a ribbon like control.

I didn't know about ribbons until the 2013 version.  And that's only because ribbons became the default.

I'm a contractor going from job to job.  In all my career working with companies, everyone used toolbars since the inception of ribbons.

And no company forces us to use ribbons.  Until now with 2015 version.  And change from great to bad is horrible.  I must learn on my own time to customixze ribbons to my likings.  Still will suck because layers, linetype, color, lineweight, dimstyle, text style controls boxes will not be able to show constantly on your screen no matter which tab and panel you choose from.  With Ribbons, carpal tunnel syndrome will set in and your brain transition goes from design momentum to hunt and find and peck to issue a command.  I use key commands mostly, but others I do not; like isolate a layer. 

The showing of control boxes constantly on screen is my biggest complaint with ribbons.

So I guess you don't use MS Office 2007 or higher aswell then ?

But, I don't know what kind of AutoCAD 2015 version you use, but in mine version the toolbars are still there.

Type :  -Toolbar ,  ALL, Show and presto.

Isn't this what you are looking for ?

I don't use MS Office much at all.  I do use Excel some.  And yes it's a pain to use their new ribbons format.  Spend more time searching than actual doing.  Hate it.

I have toolbars now, but I had to create them in a new workspace.  Not many will know to do this when they get the new 2015.

But you are telling me something I did not know and that no one told me from our AutoDesk helpdesk team at work.  You can bring up toolbars by just typing in "-toolbars"?????????? 

The other thing AutoDesk needs to work on is a way to set your own custom .ARG in options as a default each time you open up AutoCad fresh.  Because of this, I have to go into options each time and select my profile ARG and make it current.  Not a huge deal, but it just would make it nice if they made it to where the operator has the option to make their profile ARG as a default each time you open fresh into AutoCad.
