How to create synthetic point cloud data using a solid shape?

I've modeled a solid element in the API. I'd like to know, is there any plugin or tool to create the point cloud data of that element? Can I randomly generate points on the faces of the solid shape and then export the coordinate of points?

Interesting.

Point clouds being as they are generated from laser surveys you could simulate that behaviour by firing ReferenceIntersector with a fixed scanning pattern at the solid from various fixed locations around object to mimic survey station locations.

Not sure why you would want to though? 

Point clouds come in various formats some binary some ASCII.
