ExtrusionAnalyzer's analysis failed

Hello,

We are using the ExtrusionAnalyzer API class to obtain the shadow of parts. ExtrusionAnalyzer does not work with some part solids.

It throws an exception. “ExtrusionAnalyzer's analysis failed.”

You could reproduce the issue easily if you use the attached C# sample with a Revit file that is also attached. The C# sample contains a command that allows to select parts to obtain the shadow using the ExtrusionAnalyzer. The Revit file contains a Part which generates the ExtrusionAnalyzer's exception.

We would be very grateful if you give us some directions to solve the issue.

Thank you in advance!

Marcelo.

Dear Marcelo,

Thank you for your report and sample.

Sorry to hear about this.

I logged the issue REVIT-137239 [ExtrusionAnalyzer's analysis failed -- 14591642] with our development team for this on your behalf as it requires further exploration and possibly a modification to our software. Please make a note of this number for future reference.

You are welcome to request an update on the status of this issue or to provide additional information on it at any time quoting this change request number.

This issue is important to me. What can I do to help?

This issue needs to be assessed by our engineering team and prioritised against all other outstanding change requests. Any information that you can provide to influence this assessment will help. Please provide the following where possible:

  • Impact on your application and/or your development.
  • The number of users affected.
  • The potential revenue impact to you.
  • The potential revenue impact to Autodesk.
  • Realistic timescale over which a fix would help you.
  • In the case of a request for a new feature or a feature enhancement, please also provide detailed Use cases for the workflows that this change would address.

This information is extremely important. Our engineering team have limited resources, and so must focus their efforts on the highest impact items. We do understand that this will cause you delays and affect your development planning, and we appreciate your cooperation and patience.

Best regards,

Jeremy

Dear Marcelo,

Sorry for this problem. For future reference, providing the output journal file can sometimes help the customer support team or the development team provide quick feedback.

Dear Marcelo,

Thank you for your patience.

The development team analysed the issue REVIT-137239 [ExtrusionAnalyzer's analysis failed -- 14591642] that I logged for this on your behalf and say:

I opened sample.rvt in my Revit 2020 development build, selected the large object, and invoked the add-in command. The ExtrusionAnalyzer succeeded without any exceptions or errors. There is also a small solid block on one side of the large object, and ExtrusionAnalyzer succeeded for that as well. I also noticed a model line above the large object. I did not try the add-in command on the line, since that doesn't make sense.

It might be that there was a bug in earlier versions of Revit that has since been fixed.

In other words, the behaviour you describe is not reproducible.

If this is important to you, please provide a complete and minimal reproducible case that unequivocally demonstrates the problem:

Thank you!
