Error: Object reference not set to an instance when exporting family to RIF file

When trying to create a *.RIF file of some Revit Families, are frequently getting this error using the RME to FAB Store Graphics Elements tool.

"An internal error occurred during export. Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

Does anyone know a fix or workaround for this "Error that cannot be ignored?

Dear Egelsey,

Thank you for your query.

No, I am not aware of this error, nor a fix for it.

However, internal errors should not occur at all, so the development team is always interested in taking a look at them and rectifying if needed.

Could you therefore please submit a complete minimal reproducible case for them to analyse including sample model, detailed steps to reproduce, and add-in or macro code to execute, if applicable?

Thank you!

Jeremy,

This Error occurs when using the Revit 2017.2 "Revit Extension for Fabrication" Add-In.

After Selecting the desire Element (Revit Family), choosing "Store Graphics Elements" and the "Out" selection. The export process begins then the error occurs shortly there after.

I have included a sample project of a manifold containing some of the elements to which this error happens. But this error has not been exclusive to this project or this version of Revit with the Revit to Fabrication Extension. This error doesn't occur when performing the RIF file creation; just with some elements or families that do not convert.

Thanks for assistance in advance...;-)

Dear Egelsey,

Thank you for the reprodubile case.

I see now that this has nothing at all to do with the Revit API or programming.

You are just using end user products.

Please note that this discussion forum is dedicated to programming Revit using the Revit API.

Therefore, you cannot expect competent help on a question such as yours relating to installation, product usage or end user support issues here.

You should try one of the non-API Revit product support discussion forums instead for that:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-api-forum/this-forum-is-for-revit-api-programming-questions-not...

The people there are much better equipped to handle your issue than us programming nerds.

I hope this clarifies.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Best regards,

Jeremy
