does revit support temporary variables for file path ??

Hi fellow Revit'ers,

I am supposed to restructure our Revit environment, where the files are located.

the idea is the following:

all our approved families, templates, shared parameter file, seed projects,..... are situated on local server where only IT has access to.

On every boot of the users computers there is a routine that will copy all the content ( things that changed ) to the following directory:

C:\\Users\[username]\CompanysContent\[subfolder-structure]

So the users will work with these families and the Revit shared parameter file will by default point to this direction.

normal users are not supposed to change these families since they will be overriden at next system boot. If they want to use their own fmailies they shall be saved  in another local path.

Question :

since the loadable families inserted into the project remember the original file path where they have been inserted from will it be possible to change the [username] with a temporary variable  like %user and another variable for the specific folder.

Example:

The development environment - basically on one machine for now:

all new families will be created in the following folder:

C:\\Users\bim_management\development\

I would like to define this location with an temporary variable:

C:\\Users\%user\%folder

with

  • %user = bim_management
  • %folder = development

so a family would live in:

C:\\Users\%user\%folder\families\structuralFraming\Concrete\ConcreteBeam_rect_001.rfa

when copied to the local folder the variables are set to:

  • %user = [username]
  • %folder = CompanysContent

Will Revit recognize the correct folder in case the family has been changed and needs to be reloaded?

in this case:

C:\\Users\[username]\CompanyContent\families\structuralFraming\Concrete\ConcreteBeam_rect_001.rfa

thanks in advance, any tips are highly appreciated.
