Creating Polysurfaces

Hi All,

I notice with the native Revit IFC importer that it's able to generate very quickly a number of families containing a faceted polysurface.  This  object has planar faces, usually with a polyline boundary.

I've implemented similar for my addon to import IFC files, primarily using a mass family and calling the method

famDoc.FamilyCreate.NewFormByCap(true, ra); with a reference array of lines (each time for each face).  This seems much, much slower.

Any suggestions for other methods to try to work faster would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Jon

The only multi-facet object I am aware of is the TopographySurface via NewTopographySurface, cf.

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for the response.  Is there any means to create just a simple planar face (a family document could have many without "connected" edges) that has planar but arbitrary edge curves?

I'm trying to create say a foundation object that is not an extrusion (but has planar faces) and it's seems this family template is compatible with the form creation commands.

Thanks in advance,

Jon

Hi GeoGym,

you could write your own DXF files and import these ones into your family files.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.  It's a potential way of getting geometry.

But you can't assign materials etc it seems and it would mean I'd need to develop a DXF exporter.

I think I'll open an ADN  case on this.

Thanks,

Jon
