Center of gravity

Hi,

We're currently working on an area design project that includes a variety of modeled components—walls, connectors, and other objects—each with distinct materials and weights. As part of the next phase, we need to identify the center of gravity for the entire assembly.

Autodesk Inventor provides a built-in feature for calculating the center of gravity. Does Revit offer a similar tool or functionality for this purpose? If not natively available, are there recommended plugins or workflows to achieve this?

We found a plugin called Center Gravity on the Autodesk App Store, which appears to support earlier versions of Revit. However, we're currently using Revit 2024, and based on user feedback, the plugin doesn't seem to function properly with this version..

Yes you can compute the Solids of your elements (I assuming that are volumetric elements), the Solid class has a method for compute the centroid (this will match the center of gravity if the solid is of the same material). After that is simple math to calculate the center of gravity for all objects.

Hi,

Thank you for your response. In our project we are using various different materials (aluminium, stainless steel, stone, wood, etc.) and we need to figure out the center of gravity for all of them combined within the area
