Add walls to edge of mass boundary

I would like to add walls to the edge of a mass, I don't want to attach the walls to the mass just place them on the boundary. I have found the following so far.

-Extrusion analyzer, returns an edge loop, might be able to draw walls on these start end points of its tesselation?

-Get named reference of sketch planes, might be possible to make a sketch and then draw walls on the start end points of an edge loop?

-as the mass is always a oblong box or L-shape, then it should be able to project the lowest points down to a reference plane and again make a sketch?

-Maybe symbolic lines can be added to the family and these can be extracted somehow to create a sketch and then again draw walls at the start and end of the tesellated output?

I am new to revit api geometry and its a learning curve to me,no pun intended!

Has anyone tried this before and what is the simplest soln. I am not after anything perfect.

cheers fabs
