mesh creation with moving center camera

I did not expect this to work, but I took pictures inside of a cave with me as the picture taker stationary and just rotated the camera around (like a google photosphere).  But I got a pretty goo mesh (with only using my cell phone camera, and not very many pictures):

My two questions:

-what sort of workflow would make Memento/ReCap work if I were to stand in the middle and take photos around me...would that work at all?  (it seemed to, a bit)

-how much lateral movement could I do to have a successful mesh created in something like a cave?  Could I map 1000 feet of the cave with enough pictures, or would I need to do many captures then stitch them together?

Thanks!

Instead of staying in the middle, you have best chances if moving along the walls and capturing the other side.

Take as many as you can with the most overlap you can. Then you can submit sections into several projects of 250 images which is the maximum, and then try to combine those mesh sections together.

Thanks!  So you do not need to have a central focal point...it can be a "moving" one?

As long as the surrounding objects that you are trying to capture stay static you are good.

And that is the right process.

Plus the better the camera the better quality model you can expect. See if you can use DSLR.

This is one article on the best camera practices that works with Memento's photo engine.
